Apparently this is the first of many new installments of the "Republican Wall of Shame" and it's unfortunate.
I had hoped that the 2012 election would bring a period of soul-searching for the Grand Old Party. The news came in last week, with the election results, that a record number of women had been elected to the United States Senate, that women had picked up seats in the House and that the Republican Party had lost the female vote by 36 points. The news came that "pregnancy from rape is a gift from God" GOP member Mourdock had been kicked out on his ass....and so had "if it's a legitimate rape" Akin.
It seems to me really obvious that American Women aren't going to stand for this nonsense anymore...and we came out to VOTE, in huge numbers, for our rights in this election.
In response to all of this news, the Republicans on the Ohio House of Representatives Health Committee have now decided to vote to defund Planned Parenthood in that state.
http://www.ppao.org/Legislation/129th/HB298.html
Ohio House Bill 298 is labeled as a bill "To prioritize the distribution of funds for family planning services."
Uh huh...prioritize by putting Planned Parenthood at the bottom of the list and therefore making sure it gets NO funding...in a state where some areas have ONLY Planned Parenthood as an option for reproductive healthcare (breast exams, pap smears, contraceptives, etc.) for women. News flash for the rightwingers here...NOT EVERY women who walks into planned parenthood is trying to obtain an abortion.

This bill went up for a committee vote today. EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN on the committee voted for the bill and every Democrat voted against it. Now it will go for a vote in the entire Ohio House of Representatives.
So, unfortunately...I have to dust off my wall of shame...add "Post-Election" to the title and offer you the photos of the Republicans in this Committee. While they are mostly bulbous, post-menopausal, high blood pressure ridden, white males, there are a few women. Why ANY women would vote against women's health and women's rights is beyond me...but here they are in all their glory.
The Ohio House Republicans on the "Health" Committee:

Ohio House GOP Leader and Chair of the Health Committe

The Ohio House Republican Men on the Health Committee

The Ohio House Republican Women on the Health Committee
These women get the "SELF-LOATHING" award for voting against their own rights.
